Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety is the body’s natural response to stress. It is a feeling of fear and apprehension about what’s to come. Symptoms of general anxiety include: increased heart rate, rapid breathing, restlessness, trouble concentrating, and difficulty falling asleep.  Unaddressed anxiety can become quite debilitating and can interfere with day to day living and functioning.

In counselling I use several strategies to assist my clients manage their anxiety.  Some of them include:

  • Breathing techniques

  • Muscle relaxation strategies

  • Exploring worries and fears

  • Challenging negative self- talk

  • Mindfulness and visualisation
